Stylist Competition - "We need to talk about Kevin"

The brief for the "Stylist" Book Cover competition asked to redesign the covers of some iconic novels: Zadie Smith's White Teeth, Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk About Kevin, Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.

the cover for Lionel Shriver's book "We need to talk about Kevin" since I just finished reading it and therefore had t.  The images are layered on top of each other, mouths almost touching, to indicate a communication and love between mother (Eva) and son (Kevin) that should be there but isn't. The geometrical shapes emitting from the eyes of the main characters represent the mother's attempt to understand her son's view points and actions which also ends in failure.  These view points that cannot seem to cross are depicted in a literary sense by the obvious non-alignment.
